The Library at the Downtown Campus contains approximately 500,000 volumes and encompasses libraries of both the Chicago-Kent College of Law and the Stuart School of Business. These libraries form an outstanding collection of materials relating to law, business, international relations, and the social sciences.
The first library for the Chicago-Kent College of Law was created in 1890, shortly after the Chicago College of Law and the Kent College of Law merged. When Chicago-Kent joined the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1969, the Library was the only IIT library that contained legal materials. The collection’s size and scope dramatically increased after the Library moved into its current location and the Library of International Relations became part of the Library in 1992. The Stuart School of Business collection was added in 1994 to form a single Downtown Campus Library.
The Chicago-Kent College of Law collection has allowed faculty, students, and members of the public to meet the traditional needs of legal research in a technologically advanced setting.
The Library's print collection contains materials on U.S., international, foreign, and comparative law, including an extensive collection of U.S. Government, United Nations and European Union documents. These materials are easily found using our Library catalog.
The Library houses 3 computer labs, several public access terminals, many network ports, and wireless access with which its patrons can connect to the Internet and the Library's electronic databases.
Our librarians have created several tutorials on legal research topics such as legislative history research and international law research.
