Superseded legal and business materials are kept in a special area on the 6th floor known as the Closed Stacks. Current awareness materials, including the most recent edition of various newspapers, newsmagazines and other materials, are housed in the Leisure Reading Room on the 9th floor, just beside the Reference Desk,. Each semester, faculty members are able to place materials in a closed collection behind the circulation desk for their classes. Materials in this collection are selected by faculty for use in their classes. Items are placed on reserve by a reference librarian, either at the request of the faculty member or as part of a review of current syllabi. Students may find out if there are materials on reserve for a particular class through the Reserve tab in the Library’s online catalog.
Since most classes are not taught every semester, very few items in this collection are permanently part of this collection. Materials are identified in the catalog as in location “DTC Service Desk (9th Floor)”.
The Law in Popular Culture Collection is a special collection behind the 9th floor Service Desk that invites students to investigate the popular perception of law, lawyers, judges, and trials. The collection also includes selected works written by lawyers and judges and selected non-fiction works about the popular perception of lawyers and judges. While the main focus of the collection is on the law in American popular culture, other viewpoints are represented. The collection contains books, DVDs, and other media that may be checked-out by DTC students, faculty and staff. The location is identified in the catalog as "DTC Law in Popular Culture Collection (Circulating)".
Located on the Library’s 8th floor, the Library of International Relations became a part of the Library in 1992. The Library of International Relations (LIR) was founded in 1932 by Eloise ReQua (1902-1989). After obtaining her master’s degree in international trade, Ms. ReQua established the LIR to promote international understanding and friendship by examining the world’s cultures, geography and economy. Through her massive correspondence, Ms. ReQua was able to obtain materials which were not widely distributed, such as the original collection of Russian tempura war posters. The LIR was also one of the first 27 libraries to be designated a UN Depository. Since its move to the Library, most LIR materials have been integrated into the collection, with the exception of some of the UN documents that retain their UN Document numbers and are shelved in a special location on the 8th floor.
Audio-visual materials are generally housed in the Library's Medial Room on the 8th floor, designated in the catalog as the location “DTC Media Services”. Ask for them at the 9th floor Service Desk.
Located on the Library’s 9th floor between the Reference Office and the Leisure Reading Room, the Library has a special collection of reference materials that includes useful materials for both law and business study.
In addition to the materials in the stacks just behind the Reference Desk, the Reference collection also contains encyclopedias, atlases, and other materials shelved by the email stations on the 9th floor.
All reference materials are designated in the catalog as being in location “DTC Reference (9th Floor)”.
The Library's reserve collection is located in the Berkson Reading Room on the 10th floor. Materials from the reserve collection are selected by reference librarians and faculty specifically to support the Chicago-Kent or Stuart curriculum.
